Chapter 16

Bec grabbed the instructions off the table while Sol gathered the rest and she led him up the back stairs to her apartment.

She dropped the key and the paper on a table by the door and headed for her bedroom.

Sol followed her but stayed at the door while she pulled a box from the top of her closet.

“This was my dad’s,” she said, then carried it back into the living room. “I think he had some notes on Parker. I think. It’s been a while since I’ve looked through here.”

She pulled out a pile of loose papers, files, and notebooks and dropped them on the floor.

“This is everything your dad had on Moresby?”

“This stuff on the floor here is. The rest is a mix of things. Different stories he was working on.” She pushed the box under the coffee table to get it out of the way.

“And you saw Parker’s name with the Moresby files?”

“I’ve been through all of it, but it’s Moresby that I’ve focused on. But if I remember Parker’s name, then the most likely place I saw it is in this pile.”

He whistled as he pulled a notebook from the top of the pile. “That’s a lot of stuff.” He turned a few pages. “Your dad had terrible handwriting.”

She laughed. “He used to say it was on purpose, so the bad guys couldn’t use it for their evil schemes.”

Sol dropped to the floor and grabbed another handful of papers off the pile.

Bec bit her lip. “Uh, sorry, I don’t mean to throw all this on you so late. You don’t have to stay. I can do this.”

“No way am I missing out on this. Besides, we’ll make more progress if we both go through it. If Parker’s name is in here … ” He looked at her as she sat down on the couch. “This could be really important. I’m getting the feeling this is bigger than Moresby.”

“I guess that’s good.”

“Bec. I know you’ve been through a lot. But you could end up helping a lot of people.”

“Then let’s get started.”
